Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday continued to main suspense
on whether he would back Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the
NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate, saying his political outfit would
take a final call on this issue only after the BJP Parliamentary Board
decides on it.
“Let the BJP Parliamentary Board hold its meeting and take a decision. When they will meet us, we will put forth our views on it,” he told the media.
Thackeray, however, recalled that his father and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray had given his blessings to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, when she had called on him around two years ago.
Speaking at a programme organised by Assocham yesterday, Uddhav Thackeray said: “The country needs a reliable face. Can you find one face who fits? Can you see one? Since we cannot see a clear face, let us elect a strong government.
“We have a lot of credible people. Have some patience. We will definitely show you the face,” he said later, when asked as to who would be the NDA’s face in 2014.
The Sena chief’s comment assumes significance for it comes at a time when the BJP has virtually decided to project him as its Prime Ministerial nominee for the Lok Sabha polls next year.
Uddhav Thackeray yesterday also had an hour-long meeting with BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani, who had last month revolted against Modi’s nomination as BJP’s election campaign committee chief.
